The college baseball recruiting process unfolds in clear stages. Understanding where a player currently stands, and what is required to move forward, helps eliminate confusion, wasted time, and missed opportunities. Most players move through these stages sequentially, though timelines vary based on development, exposure, and proactive communication.

1 - Pre-Recruitment Stage (No Exposure)
Most players begin the recruiting journey here. They may be talented, but they are largely invisible to college coaches. At this stage, players have attended few or no college camps or showcases, have little to no recruiting video, and have no meaningful interaction with college programs. Coaches are not following them, and recruiting traction is minimal.
To move forward, players must establish a legitimate recruiting foundation. This includes building a complete player profile with accurate metrics and updated video, initiating email communication with college coaches, and competing with a respected travel organization that provides exposure.
At this stage, KG Baseball Consulting helps players create a professional profile, develop video, craft effective emails, and build a clear recruiting roadmap. The goal is to eliminate guesswork and put the player on a path toward exposure.
2 - The Exposure Stage
This stage represents the first step onto the recruiting map. Players begin attending college camps and showcase events, recording metrics, and receiving general camp invitations or mass emails. Coaches may observe players passively at events but are not actively recruiting yet. Interest is mostly one-directional.
Players must continue building the foundation established in the previous stage while becoming more strategic. Camps and showcases should be selected carefully, not randomly or based solely on college logos. Players should continue or begin competing with a respected travel organization that aligns with their recruiting goals.
In Stage 2, KG Baseball Consulting helps players identify the right camps and showcases and builds targeted email campaigns that generate real attention rather than being ignored or filtered as spam.
3 - Evaluation Stage
In the evaluation stage, players often feel as though they are being recruited, but this phase is more accurately the beginning of true interest. Coaches begin forming recruiting lists, attend games specifically to evaluate players, and move athletes from “unknown” to “identified.” Communication may still be inconsistent, but coaches often follow social media accounts, inquire with travel or high school coaches, and extend personal camp invitations.
Players must continue communicating with coaches, even when responses are limited. Attending the correct college camps based on academic and athletic fit becomes critical, as does continued development on the field. This is also the stage where players should begin distinguishing between dream schools and realistic options.
At this point, KG Baseball Consulting communicates directly with college coaches through calls, texts, and emails to help move players into the next phase of recruiting.
4 - Recruiting Stage
This is where real recruiting begins. Coaches are actively comparing players against other prospects and evaluating academic fit, personality, and long-term development potential. Communication becomes more personal through direct emails, phone calls, and texts. Many players feel overwhelmed by the pressure and volume of decisions at this stage.
Players must approach all communication professionally, respond promptly, and engage respectfully with coaching staffs. Narrowing the list of potential schools is essential to avoid unnecessary stress and confusion.
In this stage, KG Baseball Consulting assists families by researching rosters, scholarship situations, and academic criteria while communicating with coaches to provide clarity and direction. This is where true consulting plays a critical role.
5 - Heavy Recruitment and Offer Stage
Players nearing the finish line enter the heavy recruitment stage. Colleges begin requesting visits, extending invitations to small invite-only recruiting camps, and hosting players on campus with the coaching staff. Offers may begin to arrive, creating excitement but also increased pressure.
Players must treat visits professionally, speak for themselves, and approach each interaction like a job interview. Evaluating all factors including baseball, academics, development, and financial considerations is critical. Discussions with parents, coaches, and advisors are an important part of this stage.
KG Baseball Consulting helps guide families through the decision-making process, offering structure and perspective while recognizing that the final decision belongs to the player and family.
6 - Decision and Commitment Stage
This is the final stage of the recruiting journey. First, players should compare opportunities based on playing time, academics, financial considerations, development, and overall fit.
Preparation does not stop with commitment; development must continue. Players verbally commit to a college program, understanding that verbal commitments are non-binding. Continued communication with the coaching staff is important, as is finalizing academic requirements and preparing for the next level of competition. Official signing typically occurs during the senior year.
KG Baseball Consulting ensures nothing is missed between commitment and signing day, helping players transition confidently into the next phase of their baseball careers.
